What it does

Vitamin A is what lets your eyes adjust to low light, and it keeps the surfaces that line your eyes, lungs, and gut healthy, your first physical barrier against infection. It's also involved in normal skin cell turnover. Because it's fat-soluble and stored in the body, more is not always better; dosing matters.

The science

Vitamin A is essential for vision, immune defence, skin cell turnover, and gene expression. Best absorbed as preformed retinol.

Most relevant for

Vision and skin support. Pregnant women should avoid high-dose retinol; check with your doctor.
