Thiamine

What it does
Thiamine is one of the small set of B vitamins that turn the carbs you eat into usable fuel. Without it, that conversion stalls and energy dips. It also keeps nerve and muscle signaling running smoothly. Because it's water-soluble and isn't stored well, people who drink heavily, eat heavily processed diets, or take certain medications can run low.
The science
Thiamine converts carbohydrates into ATP energy, supports nerve signalling, and cardiovascular function. Deficiency is common in heavy-carb and processed-food diets.
Most relevant for
Heavy-carb or processed diets, regular drinkers, and older adults.
