Riboflavin

Last reviewed: June 2026 · Medically reviewed by a licensed pharmacist

What it does

Riboflavin is a behind-the-scenes worker in nearly every cell, helping convert food into energy and keeping your other B vitamins (like B6 and folate) in their active, usable forms. It also supports the body's antioxidant defenses. It's found in dairy, eggs, and greens, but it's light-sensitive and not stored long, so intake needs to be regular.

The science

Riboflavin forms FAD and FMN coenzymes essential for cellular energy production, antioxidant recycling, and red blood cell formation.

Most relevant for

Plant-based eaters, athletes, and anyone prone to migraines (ask your doctor).
